BEWARE OF SCAM TOKENS!
Why your wallet suddenly contains unknown coins (and which wallets protect you best)
In recent months, crypto users have been flooded with scam airdrops and fake tokens appearing out of nowhere in their wallets.
Many people panic when they see dozens of unknown coins — but it is important to know:
- You haven't been hacked.
- You haven't done anything wrong.
- But you DO need to be careful.
Here is what is actually happening.
What are scam tokens?
Scammers send worthless tokens en masse to random blockchain addresses.
Their goal:
- Luring you to a fake website.
- Tricking you into signing an "approve" transaction.
- Tricking you into swapping or claiming.
- Draining your wallet via a clever smart contract trick.
As long as you do not sign any transactions, they cannot do anything.
But one wrong click can be enough.
Why do you see these tokens in some wallets but not in others?
This depends entirely on the wallet software.
Wallets that show EVERYTHING (including scam tokens):
These wallets scan your address and display everything found on it:
- Tangem
- SafePal
- MetaMask
- Phantom
- Trust Wallet
- Solflare
- Exodus
- Atomic Wallet
- Essentially most wallets
This is why these wallets often become cluttered with "junk."
Wallets that automatically filter out scam tokens:
At the moment there are only two wallets that truly filter scam airdrops effectively:
Ledger Live (Best filtering)
Ledger only shows:
- Tokens that are officially supported.
- Tokens that you manually add yourself.
- No spam. No fake coins. No dust attacks.
Trezor Suite (Good filtering)
Trezor also only shows supported tokens, but it supports fewer blockchains than Ledger.
Why Ledger and Trezor are safer for this reason
These wallets:
- Do not display scam airdrops.
- Prevent visual phishing.
- Prevent you from accidentally clicking on fake tokens.
- Work fully offline (air-gapped or via Secure Element).
- Require physical confirmation for every transaction.
This makes them much safer than wallets that automatically display everything.
What should you do if you see scam tokens?
- Ignore them.
- Hide them in your wallet interface.
- Never swap, claim, or approve them.
- Never visit websites mentioned in the token name.
Stay Safe.
